After I came up with that (and it’s a doozie), I knew I had to put her in the worst possible position to push her to be more courageous than she thought she could be. You see, Olivia Howe was kidnapped as a child. I didn’t want to write about a molester, so the kidnapper’s reasons had to do with a mad ceremony he thinks he has to do to tamp down his rage when it rears up.
While Detective Max Callahan is skeptical, he’s also mysteriously drawn to her…so sticking close seems like a good idea. And that's when things get really hairy. But dear romantic suspense readers, you know that an HEA is guaranteed, so don’t worry—no children are murdered in this book. I found some really interesting reads as I dove into blind-sightedness. One was The Phantoms in the Brain by neuroscientist V.S. Ramachandran, and the other was The Man who Mistook his Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks. I highly recommend these books for fascinating stories about how the brain can misfire and, well, pretty much go whack-a-doodle sometimes. My story also has some special connections for me. One is the name Phaedra, the girl who gets kidnapped in my story and is psychically connected to my heroine, Olivia. One of my childhood friends was named Phaedra, and I’ve never since heard of anyone with that name. Although we lost touch decades ago, her name stuck in my head, ready to pop out when I needed a name for the girl.
She had a seizure disorder, so her Australian shepherd was trained to alert her when one was coming. Watching Denise and Stasia interact and her dog’s diligence was so touching. That’s why it was such a delight to write a story with a blind woman and her guide dog. When this book came out originally, Denise and Stasia came to one of my book signings. We bought some food-grade “ink” and had Stasia sign the books with me. It was so adorable! Although Denise has passed on, I’ll always remember her sweet smile, and her cute pup. I’m excited that Blindsight was chosen for a special $0.99 promotion so you can give it a try—or GIFT it to a friend if you've already read it. Until next time, Happy Reading! I’ve been so busy helping friends who were impacted post-Hurricane Ian, and I wanted to post this about my recent re-release, Changing Destiny. I actually wrote this book many years ago, but edited and updated it twice. This idea came to me at the beginning of my writing career, when I decided I wanted to do this for a living (well, as much as you can in this business LOL). I love the idea of being destined to meet a person, so much so that you repeatedly dream about them. And when the BIG moment comes that you meet them—wait, what? It’s nothing like a destined romance meet. And that schism propels the heroine down a rabbit hole that tests her character, her vulnerabilities, and her belief in destiny itself. I also played with this idea in my first Offspring book (as Jaime Rush): A Perfect Darkness. I do believe in destiny and soulmates, though in a broader sense than the lovers and meant-to-be-together-forever idea. We’ve all met someone whom we feel like we’ve known forever. We just click, right? We pull them into our orbit and we are in love, even if it’s friendship versus romance. It’s fun and fantastic…and then it’s not. Sometimes it falls apart. Or you drift apart. Our egos hate this. What did WE do? Why are they being so cruel??? It's taken me a lot of soul journeying to realize that this phrase is deeply true: sometimes we come together for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Accepting this is paramount to our wellbeing. As one of my soul-sisters says, we dance, and then we might waltz off to another person or another dance club altogether. Looking at the people in our inner circle tells us a lot about the vibration we’re putting out. Awhile back, I was grappling with an issue that had just come to light, and I kept attracting women who had the same family issue. It was so validating to be able to talk about it! I also attracted a friendship with a couple, and she had the same issue. But when I was able to come to peace with mine, and she was still caught up in the drama of her situation (and losing family connections), our friendship fractured. They said we were giving off weird vibes, and I realized that it wasn’t that exactly but that our vibes were no longer aligned. Seeing this made it much easier to let that go and bring in the amazing friends we have now. I also noticed this in my other work life as an agent. When some issue diverts us from moving forward, and my gut says “yes, this is not supposed to be,” I am grateful when things don’t work out. And it may be that someone else is the right person to shepherd the project to its fruition. In all parts of our lives, when people move on, it makes room for others to come in who will support our journey now…exactly where we are. And always remember that the person most integral to our growth, our happiness, and peace is ourselves. Be kind and loving to yourself first, because that’s the only way you can authentically be kind to those around you. For those of you who've been with me for...well, forever, thank you for hanging in there while I found a new home to share tidbits, new releases, and specials. Today, I have a fairly new release, which you might not have heard about since I was fussing with my website and newsletter. And the best news . . . One Last Promise is on sale for only $0.99 this week! I hope you enjoy reading this short post as much as I loved researching this romantic supernatural thriller! Tina This was a "Wow, what an amazing world we live in!" moment, standing on Doe Mountain after a long hike up.. It was hard to put myself into a thriller mindset, wondering what I'd do if I were living out here and saw a plane go down. Imagining myself doing a good thing and finding myself in a life-and-death situation with a sexy, mysterious guy I wasn't sure I could trust...but the other guys were pretty darn clear about trying to kill us both. Ever slept outside in the desert? I have! Well, I cheated. I rented a little guest cottage out in the boonies and enjoyed some creative time, some quiet time, and the experience of being out in the wild, so to speak. I wanted to get a taste of what Claire and Quade felt and saw and smelled while having to spend the night in the wilderness. I heard animals rustling and saw so many stars it was if I were looking at a different sky. Thankfully, I wasn't hiding from bad guys who were out to kill me, so there's that! As you know from my Love and Light book series, I absolutely believe that our souls are infinite, and that our experience here in this life is because our souls long to feel everything: love, joy, and yes, even grief and pain. My new romantic bestseller ONE LAST PROMISE explores all of these, and especially hope. ONE LAST PROMISE is a book of my heart, with action and a gut-wrenching love story...and an HEA that my peeps have to work hard for. And this week only it's on sale for the first time ever! Now, about the Book! One Last Promise is a Stand-Alone Story - No Cliffhanger!
